Durant son discours, Nicki Minaj a notamment remercié les artistes qui l'ont inspiré comme Lil Wayne, Foxy Brown, Lauryn Hill Hill, Slick Rick et Doug E. Fresh ainsi que ceux qui l'ont soutenu tout au long de son parcours, de Kanye West, Beyoncé et Eminem à Rihanna, Brittney Spears et Drake.

A noter aussi que c'est la première fois dans l'histoire de cette cérémonie que le prix d'artiste de l'année va à un chanteur qui ne s'exprime pas en anglais puisque c'est Bad Bunny, qui chante en espagnol, qui a remporté cette distinction.

Parmi les autres grands gagnants, The Weeknd, Doja Cat et Lizzo sont repartis avec un prix.
